There are about 260 working days in a year if you work Monday to Friday.

After you subtract stat holidays and vacation, most people actually work around 230 to 250 days a year.

How do we get 260 working days?

Here is the simple math behind it:

  • A year has 365 days

  • Most people work Monday to Friday

  • That is 5 working days per week

  • There are 52 weeks in a year

So:

52 weeks × 5 days = 260 working days

In a leap year with 366 days, there are usually 261 working days, but many people still use 260 as an easy estimate.

What about holidays and vacation?

You are not actually working all 260 days. You usually have:

  • Public or stat holidays: around 10 to 12 days per year

  • Vacation time: often 2 to 3 weeks, which is 10 to 15 working days

So a rough breakdown looks like this:

  • Start from 260 working days

  • Subtract 10 to 12 holidays → about 248 to 250 days

  • Subtract 10 to 15 vacation days → about 233 to 240 days

That is why many people end up working around 230 to 250 days a year in real life.

For everyday planning, using about 240 working days is usually good enough.

Why knowing your working days helps with money

Knowing how many days you work in a year makes it easier to:

  • Plan how much you can save

  • Break your salary into daily pay so it feels more real

  • Decide how much to set aside from each paycheque

  • Stay on track with goals like an emergency fund or a trip
